Lowry Seeks Information about Athletic Park in Minneapolis
Phil Lowry, author of Green Cathedrals, is seeking the following information about Minneapolis’s Athletic Park for an updated edition of the book: distance to power alleys, distance to center field, distance to backstop, height of outfield walls. This is the information he now has:

OCCUPANT: Neutral site use by AA Milwaukee Brewers Oct 2, 1891. LOCATION Left Field (N) Fifth Street, Third Base (W) First Avenue North; First Base (S) Sixth Street, Right Field (E) Second Avenue North; behind the West Hotel, in Butler Square. DIMENSIONS Left Field 275, Right Field 250.

PHENOMENA: Minor league Millers opened here in 1889, and their last game here was May 23, 1896. The entire AA Milwaukee Brewers major league series against the Columbus Colts in 1891 was to have been played here, but after being rained out Oct 1, playing here Oct 2 in a very cold drizzle, and having the Oct 3 game postponed due to the cold, the two teams returned to Milwaukee for their final game of the season on Oct 4. Right field was so short that what would normally have been a single to right was often a ground-out to right field.

Anyone able to assist can contact Phil at 4323 Woodhill Road, Minnetonka, Minnesota 55345, 612-281-2713, plowry1176@aol.com.

Name’s the Same
Although the first names are different, this former Twins outfielder has the same nickname and last name as a Twins mound nemesis. Who are they?
