Fall Chapter Meeting Set for October 18

The Fall Chapter meeting will be on Saturday, October 18 in the meeting room of the TCF Bank at 459 Lexington Parkway in St. Paul. The bank is located adjacent to the former site of Lexington Park and has a display to the ballpark, including a plaque donated by the Halsey Hall Chapter, on a plaza outside its front doors.

Former Twins executive vice president Clark Griffith is tentatively set as the featured guest. Clark is now the commissioner of the Northern League.

Convention News
Atlanta has been selected as the site of the 2010 SABR convention. Minneapolis was considered for the convention and will continue to be considered for future years. The 2009 SABR convention will be in Washington, D. C. from July 30 to August 2.

New Member
The chapter welcomes Roger Raina to the Society for American Baseball Research.


Book Club and Breakfast

Art Mugalian, Bob Tholkes, Rich Arpi, Tom Flynn, Mark Johnson, Gregg Omoth, and Doug Kenison along with Tom Swift were on hand at the June 14 book club to discuss Tom Swift’s book, Chief Bender’s Burden. The next meeting of the book club will be Saturday, August 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the Barnes & Noble in Har Mar Mall in Roseville to discuss Man on Spikes by the recently late Eliot Asinof.

Meanwhile, the Hot Stove Saturday Morning will be at its usual location, Bakers Square in Richfield, on July 19 at 9:00 a.m.


Quicksteps

The season is underway for the Quicksteps vintage base ball team. The SABR Nine of the Quicksteps has several games coming up over the next few months:

  • Friday, July 4, Murphy’s Landing, Shakopee, 1:30 p.m. (parade will precede game)
  • Saturday, July 19, B. F. Nelson Park, Minneapolis, 11:00 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 27, Harriet Island, St. Paul
  • Monday, August 4, Fridley Historical Society Grounds, Fridley, 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 9, Richfield Historical Society Grounds, Richfield, 1:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 6, Mantorville
  • Sunday, September 21, Brooklyn Park Historic Farm, Brooklyn Park, 1:30 p.m.
