    Lots of Stuff Coming Up
Holy Heck in a Hand Cart, Batman, look at all the baseball activities for SABR members and friends:

    Book Club
The Halsey Hall Chapter Book Club will meet Saturday, June 2 at 9:30 a.m. at the usual spot, Barnes & Noble in Har Mar Mall in Roseville. The book selection is Clemente: The Passion and Grace of Baseball’s Last Hero by David Maraniss.

    Road Trips
A tour of the Tomahawk East League in Brown County is planned for Sunday, June 17. Local baseball historian Randy Krzmarzick will host our group with a tour of the Leavenworth Baseball Museum and games in Hanska at 2 p.m. and Sleepy Eye at 5 p.m. The stadium in Sleepy Eye is the one in which Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel played during a barnstorming tour in October 1922. Diehards may choose to hang around for a 7 p.m. game in Stark. Carpools will form in south Minneapolis Sunday morning. Contact Stew Thornley, 651-415-0791 if you are interested in attending. Indicate if you can drive or if you will need to ride with someone.

This year’s Northwoods League outing will be Saturday, July 21 to see the St. Cloud Rox at the Willmar Stingers at Bill Taunton Stadium. The game is at 7:05 p.m., and Howard Luloff is arranging pre-game activities with the Stingers.

    Research Committee
The Halsey Hall Chapter Research Committee will meet Monday, June 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Southdale Library, 7001 York Avenue, Edina, and Monday, July 23 (location yet to be determined). All members are welcome to attend.

The Research Committee consists of co-chairs Brenda Himrich, Sarah Johnson, and committee members Dan Levitt, Jim Cox, Doug Skipper, Stew Thornley, Rich Arpi, Dave Lande, and Bob Tholkes.

Fred Souba Hot Stove Saturday Morning
The next Fred Souba Hot Stove Saturday Morning, an informal breakfast gathering for the purpose of talking baseball, will be at 9:00 on Saturday, July 7 at Bunny’s Northeast, 34 13th Avenue NE, Minneapolis 55413, 612-545-5659 (in what was the keg warehouse of the Grain Belt Brewery).

    Fox Cities Stadium

Charlie Levitt set a single-season home run record for Swarthmore College and helped lead the Garnet to the Division III World Series at Fox Cities Stadium outside Appleton, Wisconsin. Below, Charlie is at bat against the College of Wooster on Saturday, May 26. He drove in a run and killed an opposing rally with a running catch of a line drive in left field as Swarthmore beat Wooster 10-5.

    Charlie Levitt

Aaron Gleeman’s book, The Big 50: Minnesota Twins, has been published and is in book stores.

Anthony Bush was named coach of the week by the Proctor Journal in May. Anthony is the pitching coach for Proctor High School. He also had an article on the 1978 Proctor Rails in the Journal: 1978 Rails Baseball: Region 7AA Runner-up 40 Years Ago

Sarah Johnson had an article in Twins Daily: Life at the College World Series. Sarah will also be doing some of the official scoring for the NCAA Regional at Siebert Field the first weekend in June.

Rich Arpi had a bio of Spike Shannon, and Terry Bohn had bios of Jack Zalusky and Frank Stewart published by the SABR BioProject.

The Spring 2018 SABR Baseball Research Journal contained contributions from several members:

    Target Field press box

Brenda Himrich (left) nearly caught a foul ball hit by Bobby Wilson on May 23 and then quickly returned to her duties as the Balls Outs Strikes Spotter (BOSS), unshaken by the experience and not in the need of soothing, like the person next to her.
