Twinsfest

Rich Arpi is again coordinating our chapter’s involvement in Twinsfest and could use a few more volunteers to staff a table. The times Rich is looking to fill are Friday, January 26 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday, January 27 (three shifts from 9:00 a.m. to noon, noon to 3:00 p.m., and 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.); and Sunday, January 28, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 4:00 p.m.. If you can help out, contact Rich at 651-739-6986, rwaces@cs.com.

Other Upcoming Events:
The annual Hot Stove League Meeting will be Saturday night, February 2, at 7 p.m. at the home of Kevin Hennessy, 608 Grand Avenue in St. Paul. This is an informal gathering to discuss baseball among friends. Food and drinks will be available, and donations will be appreciated. Anyone who has trouble walking may use the parking spot behind Kevin’ house. Contact Kevin at 651-227-5183 if you need the spot.

Also on February 2, Doug Ernst will be staffing a SABR table at the Ball Park Tours Hot Stove League Banquet at the Ukranian Center in northeast Minneapolis. Contact Doug at 763-519-1174 if you would like to help.

The date for the Spring Chapter Meeting has tentatively been set for Saturday, May 3. The Twins are scheduled to play the Detroit Tigers that evening. In case the game gets switched to the afternoon, the meeting could be scheduled for April 19 or May 10.

Roger “The Owl” Godin was recognized in hockey’s The Fischler Report by publisher Stan Fischler, who commended Roger for putting together an exhibit on the U. S. Coast Guard Cutters championship team from World War II. Roger, the curator for the Minnesota Wild and an active member of the Society for International Hockey Research, has the exhibit on display at the Xcel Energy Center, home of the Wild. The Cutters, who won titles in the Eastern Amateur Hockey League and Amateur Hockey Association of the United States, had a number of Minnesotans, including Hockey Hall of Famers John Mariucci and Frank Brimsek. Roger was the original curator of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth, Minnesota.
